The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on August 29 every year. This day marks the birthday of Major Dhyanchand, the hockey player who won Gold Medals in Olympic for India in the year 1928, 1932 and 1936. In GDGPS Gorakhpur, this day was celebrated by organizing friendly football match between students and teachers. The sunny Monday morning added to the enlivening, spirit of the participants. Teacher’s team comprising both male and female staff played with highly competitive spirit and gave a touch and unyielding competition to students. Principal Dr. Ms. Jaishree Bhargava inaugurated the match and wished for the best to win.
Both the teams played with great devotion and the match was a draw. Students have given a tough competition to the teachers but “Gurus” are always Guru. By this spirit, teachers have also given a tough performance. Such matches lend a unique and distinct bonding between students and teachers.
A nature walk was organised by the teachers of Science department Mr. Arindam Ghosh, Mr. Shiva Prasad Yadav and Mrs. Meghna.
On 24th August, students of class-VII & VIII enjoyed the nature walk inside the school campus, where the teachers introduced them to various ornamental and medicinal plants like Marigold plant, Money plant, Hibiscus, Rose, Bougainvillea, Basil plant, Fern etc.
The experience was enriching and delightful as the children were amazed to become aware of the large variety of trees and plants around us in the school.
Janmashtami was celebrated with great enthusiasm at with tiny tots dressing as Lord Krishna and Radha.
The pre-primary students presented wonderful performances on events from Krishna’s life like ‘Krishna Janam’, ‘Govardhan pooja’, ‘Raaslila’, Makhan chori, Kaaliya mardan.
The students presented `Jhankis’ depicting events from Krishna’s life.
At last sweet distribution and art and craft activity were done.
School organised Interhouse Chess Competition for the senior group (Students of class-VI to class-IX). From each house, 6 students participated.
The game was played on knock out basis but last round was on a league basis. Three students reached in last round. Everybody played well and showed their mental capability by various moves. The result was :
70th Independence Day was celebrated in our school on 15th August 2016. The program started by flag hoisting at 8:45 a.m. by our Guest of Honour Mr. A.P. Mishra who is the retired justice of Gorakhpur along with the Principal Dr. Ms. Jaishree Bhargava & Chairman Mr. Raju Kr. Jaiswal. The celebration was followed by cultural programs. The students and the teachers really worked hard on that. The programme was based on patriotism then the Principal delivered the speech and motivated our students and parents. After the cultural programme, Mr. Harendra Jaiswal gave a motivational speech followed by Chairman Mr. Raju Jaiswal & Sr. Academic Coordinator Ms. Sudha Madan. The programme got over at 10:30 a.m. Teachers and students got refreshment and after that, all went home.
Students arranged the flowers in different pattern and shapes. They made handmade flowers using own creativity and ideas. There were 6 participants from each house. It was truly a delight to see the young hands of our artisans put together to make beautiful flower bouquets.
Students celebrated Maths week “Mathematica” with great enthusiasm. Mathematics became joyful when children did interesting activities in class.
Interactive learning helped children in boosting their confidence.
Maths Quiz was held as a part of Maths Week on 4th August 2016. The rules and regulations were circulated to each house Master and they selected 2 students each from class 5th and 6th making it a total of 4 students per house since there were 4 houses so total 16 contestants from class 5th and 6th contested in a group activity.
The Quiz was divided into 4 rounds with different sets of rules and regulations for each round to access the Versatility of the students. The Rounds were-

- CATCH THE “CATCH”
- BRAIN TEASERS
The Quiz was witnessed by all the students from class 5th to 9th, teachers pertaining to these classes.
Students participated quite enthusiastically in all of these rounds and it was the VIVEKANAND HOUSE (YELLOW) WHO “RULED THE ROOSTS” at the end of the day and stood first followed by TAGORE (BLUE), RADHAKRISHNAN (ORANGE) and TERESA (BLUE).
Basketball is the fast moving game that involves a lot of variety include shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding and much more. It is a team sport. To consider such all things the school organised Interhouse Basketball competition from 22nd – 23rd August 2016 for sub-junior girls of class-III to class- V. Radhakrishnan & Vivekananda houses reached in finals and showed a commendable performance. Duration of the match was 35 minutes i.e. 15-5-15. Though Radhakrishnan house has given a tough competition to Vivekananda House but Vivekananda House won the match by 8-4. Aachal Singh of Radhakrishnan has shown a spirit of true captainship and motivated her team throughout the competition. The final result of houses is:-

An Interhouse Flameless cooking competition was organized in our pre-primary section on 2 August 2016. Students of Pre-Nursery to Class-II participated in this with great enthusiasm. They indulge themselves in great ideas. All the students were so excited and teachers were surprised to see their creativity. Overall it was a great fun to see our Goenkans participating with great effort. It was a very yummy day.
To enhance creativity, for the development of artistic skills, motor skills and to learning awareness through artwork, Interhouse art competition was organized on 1st August 2016.
There were different activities for different groups:
Grade I-II : Nature drawing
Grade III-V : Cartoon Making
Grade VI-VII : Rangoli Making
Grade VIII-IX : Poster Making (Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao)
